Waterford Sports Partnership secured Dormant Accounts funding to develop a physical activity hub in the three areas of Cappoquin, Lismore and Villierstown in West Waterford.
The core objective of the Community Sports Hub is to grow participation, engage the local community, promote community leadership, offer a range of sporting opportunities, promote awareness of sporting opportunities and bring all key partners/groups/people together within the three specified areas.
A key component of this process is to ensure we engage effectively with the 2,253 people living within the three areas. For the project to be a success, Waterford Sports Partnership will be engaging with local clubs/organisations and individual to ensure that together we achieve the following:
- Provide pathways for Sport and Physical Activity
- Produce well trained people to develop the capacity of sport on a local level
- Create strong organisations
- Provide quality facilities
We have already increased physical activity numbers through our work in partnership with Cappoquin Rowing Club, the seven local primary schools, our club/school Sportshall Athletics programme and our assistance with clubs and community organisations providing opportunities for the entire community. We also coordinated opportunities for Men’s Health Week and National Play Day within the locality. However, now is the chance for all residents to have their say to ensure that their voice is heard and we, together, can make a positive impact on the opportunities available within this area.
We have launched an online survey which can be accessed HERE. We encourage all residents of Cappoquin, Lismore and Villerstown to complete the survey and to encourage other individuals and groups in their locality to have their say too.
