Orienteering is the sport of navigation that requires you to find your way from one point to another using only a map, your brains and sometimes a compass. It’s easy to learn and a fun way to exercise your body and mind, as you enjoy the outdoors. It’s a sport for everyone and is something that can be easily learnt by people of all ages and abilities. Orienteering is usually done in the woods, hills or parks, with the participants on foot.
Orienteering develops many skills including problem solving, team work, decision making and self awareness. It really is fun for all the family.
Waterford Sports Partnership, in association with Waterford Orienteers and the Irish Orienteering Association is currently developing Orienteering across Waterford. We have developed permanent courses and mapped many areas in the last twelve months. Our aim is that schools, community groups, families and individuals will try out this exciting, inclusive sport. We encourage you to use these permanent courses and download the maps to create your own.
