Carrickphierish Community Campus was developed as part of the North West Suburbs Action Plan for Waterford City which was put in place and developed from 2002 by Waterford City Council to consist of ongoing housing development, a new Carrickphierish Road, two primary schools, a library and community facilities which would create a landmark building in the area. Waterford Council gave sites to the Department of Education for the development of the two primary schools.
‘The vision for the Campus development was the creation of three integrated community buildings which would support a cooperative and partnership approach to the provision of services.’
Community Sports Hub
Our involvement in the campus development began in late 2015 when we successfully applied for funding from Dormant Accounts via Sport Ireland which was matched with funding from Waterford City & County Council to set up a Community Sports Hub at the campus.
Our core objective in setting up the Community Sports Hub was and is to maximise the opportunity presented by this fantastic new facility for the local community to participate in sport and physical activity. The sports hall is shared by the two schools during school term and available for use by the community in the evenings, at weekends and during school holidays.
