We will be delivering a ‘Fighting Fit’ Programme in Waterford City in 2019
Operation Transformation is coming to Waterford for the ninth year running. The Sport Ireland National Network of Local Sports Partnerships has teamed up with Operation Transformation once again this year to promote healthy living in 2019.
We are organising a safe and accessible walks along the spectacular ‘Waterford Greenway’ on Saturday 12th January 2019.
The walk will start from the Workhouse Car Park Kilmacthomas @ 11am

Women on the Move is a six week activity programme suited to all age groups and includes activities which cater for all fitness levels. Each session lasts for one hour and depending on the weather may be indoor/outdoors. The programme includes fun games and workouts which help to improve cardiovascular health, strength, flexibility and mobility.
Over the past couple of years we have run successful Women on the Move Programmes
in Dungarvan, Portlaw, Lismore, Carrickphierish & Clashmore/Kinsalebeg.
All the women who have participated have thoroughly enjoyed the experience, one participant said ‘I really loved doing it with friends that I made and helped me get fitter also’.

Buggy Buddies is a progranmme for parents, childminders, grandparents etc., to take part in with their little ones. Over the past year the programme has been a big hit in Dungarvan, Kilmacthomas and Ballybeg in Waterford City.
The 1 hour sessions consist of 40 minutes of cardio exercises and 20 minutes of exercises that aim to improve strength and conditioning. The programme offers a huge variety of activities which cater for all fitness levels and allows participants to work at an intensity which is appropriate to them. It is also a great way to get out and meet other parents in an environment which is safe and fun for both parent and baby/toddler!
BUGGY BUGGIES 2019
Due to the success of our 2018 Buggy Buddies Programme we are continuing our programmes in Ballybeg and Dungarvan in January 2019.
CILL BARRA SPORTS CENTRE
A six week block is beginning in Ballybeg on Wednesday January 16th from 9.30 to 10.30am.
The classes are run indoors and instructed by Sinead Brannigan, who delivers a great quality session tailored to suit the needs of the participants. The classes consist of exercises suited for all fitness levels and abilities, focusing on improving cardiovascular fitness, strength and flexibility.
Cost: €25 per 6 week block/ €5 pay as you go option

An eight week block is beginning in Dungarvan on Thursday February 7th from 10 to 11am.

The Men on the Move Programme encourages men to get more active, have fun and improve their fitness levels through twice weekly activity sessions. The programme offers men the chance to learn and take part in safe, effective exercises tailored to suit their needs. Participants should see both physical and psychological benefits such as improved mood, increased energy, weight loss/control and improved mobility and greater functional fitness. The twice weekly one hour physical activity sessions focus on aerobic exercises for forty minutes and work on core strength and flexibility for twenty minutes.
At the outset of each programme participants are measured for weight, height, BMI, waist circumference and also complete a one mile timed walk/run. These measurements are taken again in week eight.

Waterford Sports Partnership is proud to be a member of the 20 x 20 campaign, presented by the Federation of Irish Sport. The aim of the movement is to give increased profiling to girls and women involved in sport at all levels and to grow involvement in female sport and physical activity by 20% by the end of 2020.
20×20 is about creating a cultural shift in our perception of girls and women in sport. By increasing visibility of women’s sport it will become a greater part of who we are and what we follow. There is already so much to celebrate when it comes to women’s sport in Ireland, but there isn’t enough noise. The initiative seeks to change the subliminal bias in the Irish psyche that exists around girls and boys, or women and men, when it comes to sport. The name of the initiative is shorthand for 20% by 2020, these are the targets set for the initiative:
20% more media coverage of women in sport by the end of 2020
20% more female participation whether at player, coach, referee or administration level by the end of 2020
20% more attendance at women’s games and events by the end of 2020
This isn’t a ‘women for women’ initiative, it’s ‘all of society for all of society’. If sport is good, which we know it to be, then more sport is better. If we all play, we all win. 20×20 is asking all sections of Irish society to show their stripes and pledge one small action to increase the visibility of women’s sport in Ireland because if she can’t see it, she can’t be it.
