West Waterford Hub Comments from Needs Analysis

  • Cycle lanes between towns would be a huge asset

  • Safe access to the River by a pontoon or similar.

  • Running track and a cycle/walking path that connects Cappoquin to Lismore.

  • I would love to see a skateboarding park/area for kids.

  • No parks, playgrounds, outdoor gyms or recreational walking areas. Families, teens etc forced to travel for amenities. Cappoquin and Lismore are well served.

  • Nowhere at all to walk on our narrow roads, also there are no street lights unless you’re in the village street.

  • The community centre in Lismore isn’t used for the community.

  • Water sport training/lessons/camps for kids 11-16 would be great. Also outdoor activities like orienteering, survival skills, fishing locally, all would be great.

  • I would love to play volleyball or basketball and I know many other people my age (17) who would love to have access to these sports too.

  • Would love a safe running area around my local GAA pitch or neighbourhood.

  • Open water swimming lessons.

  • A place by the river to have outdoor classes like yoga, Pilates, etc.

  • Might be idea to try and have a list of what is available locally.

  • I coach medieval archery and get people from as far away as Limerick and Kilkenny cities – but few locals seem to know about it.

  • Running group starting from 5k up.

  • Cycling group for women.

  • Weight classes for over forties and fifties.

  • Water sports like rowing or kayaking – there’s a fine river to be taken advantage of.

  • I’m a member of the Villierstown boat club. I’d like to see the club expanded so that it can offer more opportunities for people my age and all ages i.e. organised.

  • Young people who do not enjoy team sports such as hurling etc should be catered for e.g. teen yoga, Pilates.

  • I think there are people in the 45+ age category who stopped doing much after they finished playing GAA, due to working schedules and maybe lack of knowledge about the benefits of training but also out of being intimidated or not wanting to get out of their comfort zone they lose out.
