The Youth Sports Development Officer runs programmes for schools and youth groups in various activities including . . .
ZUMBA DANCE
Over 200 students from Presentation National School and 290 students from Our Lady of Mercy Senior National School took part in a three week Zumba Dance programme. Zumba Dance is a fun activity that caters for all, regardless of skill, ability and fitness levels. The girls enjoyed the activity so much, that they are continuing with Zumba Dance for the remainder of the school term.
YOGA
Mercy National School
A sixth class from the Mercy National School took part in a three week Yoga programme. To maximize the benefits of this programme, the class was split into two (13 students each) and two sessions delivered with each session lasting 45 minutes. The instructor took the class through breathing/relaxation techniques and demonstrated a number of Yoga poses. Feedback from this programme was excellent and we hope to bring more Yoga programmes to more primary schools.
WYTEC
A group of female trainees from WYTEC Educational and Training Centre engaged in a three week Yoga programme, facilitated by My Yoga Waterford. For most of the girls, it would have been the first time they would have tried Yoga. The girls enjoyed it so much that they have request further Yoga sessions. Well done girls!!
TAG RUGBY
Two 6th classes from St. Saviour’s National School and 3 classes from St. Paul’s National School completed a 4 week Tag Rugby programme. Facilitated by a WIT Munster Rugby Officer and Waterford City Rugby Coach Dean Cox, the sessions included fun evasion games, passing skills, relays and development through play. Waterford City Rugby Club provided free passes to both schools for the clubs training sessions on Sunday mornings.
