Staying Fit for the Future Better Balance Programme

Published: June 17, 2025

A group of older adults participating in a physical activity session in a sports hall. Two women in the front are stepping through a grid of colourful hoops laid out on the floor, while others follow in a line behind them. The session appears to focus on balance, coordination, and fun movement in a supportive environment.

Staying Fit for the Future Better Balance programme is an enjoyable on your feet exercise class.

This programme is suitable for adults who walk unaided and want to stay strong on their feet and falls free for life. It is not suitable for people who have fallen in the past 12 months or who use a walking stick or frame.

As one ages, reaction times, bone health, strength, balance, and flexibility of tissue may become impaired. The aim of this programme is to help prevent this deterioration in adults by challenging and training the main components needed for maintaining good independent movement.

Classes focus on strength, flexibility, range of movement, and balance to ensure environmental factors such as steps, paths, darkness, hills, etc will not become an obstacle to enjoying an active and healthy life.

We asked past Better Balance participants:
Is there any activity that you can do now that you could not before attending?

Here’s what they said:~‘Stepping over the electric fence’
‘I feel my legs have gotten stronger and my balance has improved’
‘A lot of increased walking and I’m also incorporating stretching now’

Want to join us in the Autumn term?
