Sample Women in Sport Grant Applications

Published: January 27, 2026

Club Name: Riverside Rovers Football Club

Programme Name: Riverside Rovers “New Stars” Participation Initiative

  1. Describe the proposed expenditure of Grant funding

The grant will be used to deliver a 6-week introductory women’s hockey programme designed to attract new participants and support retention.

  • Equipment (€200): Purchase of sticks, balls, bibs, and protective gear for beginners so all participants can join without needing to provide their own equipment.
  • Coaching (€250): Hire a qualified female coach for weekly 90-minute sessions to ensure participants receive structured, safe, and enjoyable coaching.
  • Marketing & Outreach (€50): Posters and flyers distributed in local gyms, community centres, and workplaces, as well as posts on social media targeted at local women.

This expenditure plan supports proactive recruitment, retention, and inclusivity, while making participation accessible and enjoyable for new female players.

  1. How will the expenditure increase participation?

The programme is designed to remove barriers and encourage women of all ages and abilities to try hockey:

  • Recruitment: Outreach specifically targets women who have never played, including local workplace wellness programmes and community groups, ensuring new participants are reached.
  • Retention: Structured sessions led by a female coach, combined with a friendly, supportive environment, will help participants feel confident and engaged.
  • Inclusivity: The club will offer small group sessions and provide equipment, ensuring participants who may have previously felt excluded due to cost or skill level can join.
  • Impact Measurement: Success will be measured by the number of new participants, retention across the 6 weeks, and participants’ expressed interest in continuing to club sessions afterwards.
  • Sustainability: Volunteer club members will be trained to assist with sessions, and purchased equipment can be used for future programmes, allowing the club to continue offering women-only sessions beyond the grant period.
  1. Costing Breakdown

Total Grant Requested: €500

  • Equipment: €150
  • Coaching: €300
  • Marketing & Outreach: €50

All costs are clearly justified, reasonable, and focused on encouraging participation. The programme provides measurable benefits, ensures accessibility for all, and creates a sustainable pathway for women to continue participating in hockey.

  1. Club Name: Riverbank Women’s Basketball Club

Programme Name: “Try Basketball Tuesdays”

  1. Describe the proposed expenditure of Grant funding

We want to get more women in our town playing basketball, and this grant will help us make it happen! Here’s what we’d spend the €500 on:

  • Equipment (€180): New basketballs, cones, and bibs so every participant can jump right in without buying anything themselves.
  • Coaching (€270): A friendly, experienced coach for 6 weekly sessions to help beginners learn the basics and feel confident on the court.
  • Promotion (€50): Posters at local cafés, gyms, and community noticeboards, plus a few social media posts to spread the word.

This spending plan is all about making it easy, fun, and welcoming for new women players, so they’ll want to keep coming back.

  1. How will the expenditure increase participation?

We know that trying a new sport can be intimidating, so we’re making sure our programme:

  • Reaches new people: We’re advertising in places women already go, and specifically inviting women who’ve never played basketball before.
  • Keeps people coming back: Short, fun sessions with supportive coaching and friendly volunteers mean people feel comfortable and included.
  • Supports everyone: No equipment? No problem. New to sport? We’ll guide them every step of the way.
  • Shows results: We’ll keep a simple sign-in each week and follow up with participants to see who wants to join regular sessions.
  • Creates something lasting: The coach will also train a volunteer to run future sessions, and the new balls and bibs will be used again and again.

By the end of the 6 weeks, we hope to have at least 15 new women regularly playing basketball and feeling part of our club.

  1. Costing Breakdown
  • Equipment: €180
  • Coaching: €270
  • Promotion: €50

Everything is reasonable and directly aimed at getting women active in sport. The programme is fun, low-barrier, and easy for the club to keep going afterwards.
