Hi, I’m Sinéad, the Physical Activity for Health Officer at Waterford Sports Partnership.
I’m passionate about supporting people to start moving or re-engage with physical activity, especially when long-term health conditions or other barriers make it more challenging to be active.
Whether you’re a healthcare professional or someone living with a chronic condition, I’d love to keep you informed about upcoming Physical Activity for Health programmes. If you’re interested, please take a moment to complete our Expression of Interest Form Here
TESTIMONIALS
“The Physical Activity for Health Officer has been a great link to facilitate people with chronic diseases to exercise confidently in the community. As a Respiratory Physiotherapist I note bridging the gap between specialised Pulmonary Rehabilitation and exercise in the community is very important for sustained behaviour change. Sinead has been responsive to develop programmes in response to our physio team’s feedback. The patients we have signposted have additional barriers to exercise compared with the general population and find the support of the Sports partnership programmes great!” Respiratory Physiotherapist
“I have more energy and motivation to do things and enjoy getting up and about. I’ve also started walking as well” Aqua Aerobics participant
“I’ve a few health problems, and it has limbered me up a lot. I can now vacuum and mop without having to sit down” Chair Yoga participant
Physical Activity for Health Project Background
In 2023, Waterford Sports Partnership (WSP) was selected as one of six counties to pilot the Physical Activity for Health Programme. This initiative is supported by Sláintecare funding through Sport Ireland. The programme is also being rolled out in Mayo, Longford, Limerick, Wexford, and Wicklow through their respective Local Sports Partnerships (LSPs).
The Physical Activity for Health Officer (PAfH Officer) plays a key role in supporting people with chronic conditions to engage in physical activity, particularly those who may need additional encouragement or assistance before joining existing Waterford Sports Partnership (WSP) programmes.
By working closely with key partners, the PAfH Officer helps ensure individuals receive the support and guidance they need to safely take part in local physical activity opportunities. Over time, the aim is for participants to build confidence and readiness to transition into mainstream WSP programmes.
The PAfH Officer is a member of the WSP team and collaborates with Sport Ireland, the other pilot LSPs, Sláintecare, the HSE, local authorities, and other stakeholders to develop tailored opportunities that make physical activity more accessible for people living with chronic conditions.
