Waterford Sports Partnership celebrated National Play Day 2020 with 100 families in West Waterford on Saturday 4th July 2020.
Under the theme this year of ‘Playful Communities, Playful Homes’, Waterford City and County Council received funding from the Department of Children and Youth Affairs to host initiatives to promote and celebrate National Play Day, by creating playful opportunities for children.
The Minister for Children, Disability, Equality and Integration, Roderic O’Gorman T.D., encouraged participation.
“Play is central to children’s wellbeing, learning and development. Now more than ever, there is a need for each of us to make time for play in our homes and in our communities. I welcome National Play Day 2020 and encourage people to take part, whether it is from your home or in your community.
As part of National Play Day 2020, Waterford Sports Partnership coordinated the assembly & distribution of 200 play packs for families across Waterford. The packs contained lots of equipment including a skipping rope, ball, frisbee, chalk and bubbles. 100 of these play packs were distributed to families in West Waterford with collection from Lismore Heritage Centre and Cappoquin/Affane GAA Club. In total, 266 children benefited from the play packs which was accompanied by a video from Waterford Sports Partnership staff on how to use your play pack which you can view here . . .
