One of the aims of Waterford Sports Partnership (WSP) is to support the development of opportunities for people to participate in organised sport and physical activity.
Sports Clubs and Local Community Groups & Disability Services and Special Schools: Local Sports clubs, Community Groups, Special Schools and Disability Service Providers in Waterford are invited to submit an application for funding to support them to co-ordinate a Community Based Walking programme for 6 weeks in their community for both members and the wider community. The walks must start week beginning 20th of January 2025.
Closing date for receipt of applications is Friday 3rd January 2025 at 5pm.
*Applicants will be notified of the Grant Committee’s decision by Monday 13th January 2023 at 5pm.
GRANT CRITERIA
- Applications must describe how funding will create a sustainable, safe and accessible walk for members and the wider community.
- The maximum grant available is up to €250.
- Walks must take place weekly for a minimum of 6 weeks.
- Walks must be FREE for participant
ELIGIBLE FUNDING COSTS:
Funding can ONLY be used for relevant:- Promotion
- Equipment for walking
- Refreshments
- Exercise professional to lead the walks
INELIGIBLE FUNDING COSTS:

- Annual Club Operational/ Maintenance Costs
- Insurance Fees
- Hospitality Costs (Bars/Restaurants)
- Capital Costs
- Team Clothing i.e. club jerseys
- Equipment: Cameras, speakers etc…
Who can apply? – Suitable Applicants
Non-for-Profit Sports Clubs, Community Groups, Special Schools and Disability Services based in Waterford City or County.
Who can’t apply?
Individuals, Community Facilities, National/ Regional/ County Bodies/Commercial Organisations, For profit groups, Private facility owners.
To be eligible Sports clubs & Groups must:
- Be affiliated with either a Sport Ireland recognised National Governing Body (NGB) or relevant Governing Body, or disability organisation at the time of applying (proof must be provided by new clubs & may be requested from existing clubs).
- Operate as a not for profit group and be open for new public membership.
- Have adequate insurance in place, policies and practices that encourage participation regardless of gender, age, race, or ability.
- Where applicable, sports clubs or groups that have received previous funding from Waterford Sports Partnership must have fully drawn down all funds to be considered for new funding.
- All successful Services and Schools must confirm that all safeguarding and garda vetting measures are in place and provide WSP with your safeguarding statement prior to funding being allocated.
- All successful Groups and Sports Clubs will be asked to sign a partner agreement confirming all safeguarding and garda vetting measures are in place prior to funding being allocated.
PLEASE NOTE:
– Applicants should note that successful clubs/organisations must comply with any reasonable request regarding publicity from Waterford Sports Partnership.
– All sports clubs funded under this scheme will be asked to submit a copy of receipts
– If successful funding will be transferred to club, groups or service bank account upon receipt of all invoices/receipts.
Approved funding does not cover expenses incurred prior to the date the club, groups or service receives notice of funding approval.
