
The SIDO is:
- Working with mainstream clubs and groups to increase participation of people with a disability e.g. athletics, cycling, aqua aerobics, yoga, judo, gym and fitness etc.;
- Working with disability organisations and groups to create disability specific programmes to meet the needs of groups of individuals with a disability e.g. dance and fitness for adults with an intellectual disability, yoga for adults with M.S., swimming for children with Down Syndrome etc.;
- Assisting with the development of new disability clubs e.g. Special Olympics Club for children aged 8-16 years in the Dungarvan region, Ferrybank Soccer Club for children with special needs etc.
- Creating new or promoting existing training programmes which will enable the inclusion of people with a disability in sports or physical activity e.g. disability awareness course, assistant swim teachers course (teaching people with a disability) etc.;
