Go for Life is the Irish national programme for sport and physical activity for older people. The programme aims to involve more older adults in all aspects of physical activity more often.
Active Older People Programme
This is a six week programme which is run in conjunction with Go for Life. The programme aims to encourage Older adults to gradually increase the amount of physical activity they are doing, working towards the recommended weekly guideline of 30 minutes moderate activity five times during the week. The participants are provided with an activity log book to record their activity and subsidised entry to local leisure centres where they can try out activities such as Aerobics, Aqua Aerobics, Swimming in addition to a gym induction which led to many participants using gym equipment such as treadmills, exercise bikes, cross trainers and rowing machines.
The Activity Log Book developed by Waterford Sports Partnership for the Active Older People Programme, is available to download here, it also contains useful tips and information for Older Adults about the benefits of being active and how to become more active more often.
